Anglers will delight in fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, walleye, sockeye, and wiper in the surrounding three county lakes, five state parks and numerous public-access fish ponds.

Stay in one of Wamego’s 80 hotel rooms. Most hunting and fishing supplies and live bait can be found at Oregon Trail Trading Post in downtown Wamego or chicken livers / hotdogs at Gene's Heartland Foods on Hwy 24.

Wamego City Park

Come spend the afternoon at City Park’s two-acre fishing pond – you can fish from the wood pier, grassy banks or even off of the bridge that spans the pond.

Located 17 miles from Wamego, this area is also known as the William B. Hanzlick Wildlife Area. Fishing here is open sunrise to sunset to the general public by permit only.

Located 20 miles from Wamego, this 1,200 acre park boasts 12,500 acres of water and 100 miles of rugged, wooded shoreline. It also offers the convenience of boat ramps for easy access.

Just outside of Tuttle Creek State Park, and 20 miles from Wamego, this area offers free public access where you can fish from the bank or waterfall.

Pottawatomie State Lake #1

This 24-acre lake, 19.5 miles from Wamego, offers a fish population that includes Bluegill, Channel and Flathead Catfish, White Crappie, Green Sunfish, and Largemouth, Smallmouth and Spotted Bass.

Fancy Creek Park

Located 34 miles from Wamego on the north end of Tuttle Creek Reservoir, Fancy Creek Park offers excellent channel cat and flathead fishing. Look for bass and crappie near standing timber and brush piles.

Fishing Licenses:

Legal residents of more than 60 days, ages 16 – 64, must have a resident fishing license in possession while fishing in Kansas. Nonresidents ages 16 and older must have valid nonresident fishing license. Resident Fishing License: $20.50
