Throughout the months of November and December Wamego embraces this season of hope, giving and community harmony by celebrating with visits from Santa Claus, seasonal entertainment at the Columbian Theatre and more! Join us for the many activities that make this a wonderful time for family and also a season to comfort one another.

2018 Season of Lights / December 9

Carriage Rides

  • Take a ride on one of our two carriages. There will be a 6-person and a 12-person carriage available. Will load and unload at the Dutch Mill. If you want to be dropped off at the Columbian Theatre downtown let the driver know. Cash donation or non-perishable food item, new toy, toiletries for the Wamego Christmas Bureau

 

Santa & Mrs. Claus at School House & Prairie Village Lawn

  • Visit Santa at the School House from 4-7 pm
  • Listen to a book read by Mrs. Claus on the lawn
  • Free treat for kids
  • Complimentary Photo with Santa courtesy of Reflections Photography

 

Paws of OZ Presents: Holiday Paws Parade in Wamego City Park

  • Registration will begin at 4 pm at the Old Shelter House in the City Park
  • Participants are encouraged to dress up/decorate their pets in festive holiday gear
  • Parade will begin at 5 pm and prizes will be awarded!
  • Proceeds will benefit the Wamego Dog Park, Paws of OZ.

Iron Clad (Downtown)

Wamego’s Historical Museum (Prairie Village in Wamego’s City Park)

  • Spend a little time at this gem of the Wamego community and Discover Wamego’s history which traces the evolution of Wamego and Pottawatomie County from the first inhabitants, the Konza and Potawatomie Indians, to the history of the Underground Railroad in the area, and the artifacts brought back from the Columbian Exposition of 1893.
  • Enjoy live Christmas Music on the porch. 
  • Historical Society will be serving Hot Chocolate and Cookies.

 

Historic Columbian Theatre (Downtown)

  • Delight in some holiday merriment at the theatre’s open house.
  • There will be cookies made by the Wamego High School FCCLA students and hot chocolate for the first 250 people.
  • Family Photo opportunity, so bring your smiles, plus photo ops with two christmas trees and with movie “Frozen” characters.
  • Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol  Program sponsored by the Wamego Public Library, Friends and Trustees: At 6 pm. On the Columbian stage. Two actors will perform the interactive play with an emphasis on audience participation. Written and produced by Kansas native, New York-based, Brett Crandall.

 

Additional Holiday Fun

  • OZ Winery is offering 15% off during festival. Great place to find wonderful Christmas gifts.
  • Wamego Public Library will be open: 4 - 7pm. -Activities to be announced and there will be treats!
  • Tasty Traveler Food Truck will be serving delicious sandwiches, chili and so much more. Located at the Fountain in the City Park, look for the holiday lights.
  • Friendly Cooker will be open during festival, plus many other restaurants throughout Wamego.

November 3

  • Holly Fest: First Presbyterian Church (6th & Elm Streets) 9 am to 2 pm- Crafts, vendors, art, food, home-made pies, COOKIES BY THE DOZEN and so much more. All proceeds will go to support the First Presbyterian Church Women’s Group. (For more information call church office: 785-456-2556)

November 10-16

  • Trees with a Mission on Display at Iron Clad: All proceeds benefit Community Health Ministry. This year's theme is "A Fun Old Fashion Griswold Family Christmas." More information is found on this web site. November 11

  • Stitch-N-Stuff:  11 am - 2 pm St. Bernard Parish Hall  Soups, Quilt Raffle, Bingo and Market

November 15

  • OZ Winery Holiday Open House: 5 - 7pm / 417 Lincoln.  There will be hors d'oeuvres and wine pairings. Plus 15% discount that evening on all purchases.  (For more information call: 785-456-7417)

November 16

  • A Fun Old Fashion Griswold Family Christmas Event: 5:30 to 10 pm. $10 a person. Holiday Fun with Live and Silent Auction. wamegochm.org

November 21

  • Annual Pie Sale: This yearly event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.  Starts at 8am on Wednesday morning at the library and pies are for sale until they are gone. They will go fast, so DO NOT DELAY. All pies are homemade. Prices are $10 for pumpkin and $15 for all others.  Anyone that would like to donate a homemade pie should contact the library.   • Community Thanksgiving Dinner: Trinity Baptist Church 12-2 pm Open to all!

November 24

  • 12th Annual Sylvester’s Holiday Light Show (Hwy 99 – South of Wamego) This Holiday light show starts Thanksgiving weekend (weather permitting) and runs through January 2nd.   Over 40,000 lights synchronized to music. Head south on K99 toward Interstate 70 approximately 2.5 miles. The display is on the east side of the road, just look for the giant reindeer. There is a circle drive and parking (weather permitting) in the field directly adjacent to the drive.

  • Cookies by the Pound: For just $6 you can get a pound of delicious, home-made cookies, sponsored by St. Luke's Episcopal Church and First Baptist Church! Hosted at First Baptist Church at 700 Lincoln Ave., Wamego, KS 66547, from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.

December 3

  • The Feast of Carols -  7th and 8th Grade Bands and Choir starts at 6:30 p.m. and the High School performs at 7:45 p.m.  The concert is at the WHS Auditorium.  For more information: wamegobands.org

December 8 & 9th

  • Christmas Home Tours: 10 am to 4 pm on the 8th and 1 pm to 4 pm on the 9th. - $15 per person and there are 6 homes available to tour. Tickets can be purchased on either the 8th or 9th at any of the homes. The addresses are: 2808 Cedarsprings Lane, 2804 Cedarsprings Lane, 910 5th Street, The Opera House on 5th Street, 5225 Onaga Road, and 328 Simmer Drive.

  • Season of Lights: Wamego City Park - 4 pm to 7 pm  Visit Santa in the school house in City Park, have dinner at the Tasty Traveler food truck, warm up with hot chocolate and cookies at the Historical Museum, visit the Wamego Public Library for treats, be entertained by WHS High Voltage and women's ensemble, participate in or watch the Holiday Paws Parade through the City Park, ride the horse drawn carriage-just bring a donation for the Christmas Bureau.
  • Season of Lights: Iron Clad - 427 Lincoln  Free children's craft for the first 100 children.  Model train on display.

Decenber 21

  • Storytime with SANTA: Hosted by the Wamego Public Library, at Iron Clad - Join us at Iron Clad for storytime, a craft, and a visit from SANTA himself!!

Trees with a Mission / November 10- 16

COMMUNITY HEALTH MINISTRY IS KICKING OFF CHRISTMAS WITH A WEEK OF FESTIVE ACTIVITIES!!!

  • Join us at Iron Clad to enjoy and bid on the beautiful trees, wreaths and center pieces.

SUNDAY NOV.11 (11am – 2pm)

  • Honoring our Veterans - Soup for the Soul.
  • Open House at Iron Clad! Many beautiful things to bid on: decorated trees, wreaths, and center pieces.

NOVEMBER 12-15 (9am - 6pm)

  • Clubs and organizations, plan on an outing to the Iron Clad to see the beautiful holiday decorations.
  • Bid on the beautiful christmas decorated trees, wreaths, and center pieces.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16 (5:30PM—10PM) A FUN OLD FASHIONED GRISWOLD FAMILY CHRISTMAS EVENT

  • $10 a person
  • Live and Silent Auction for decorated trees, wreaths and center pieces.

  • Competitions: Best  Jell-O Mold, Dress up as Christmas Vacation Cast, Ugly Sweater Contest, Selfie Station with Props

Christmas Lights in Wamego

There are many wonderful Christmas lights throughout Wamego from Thanksgiving Day and then throughout the Christmas season.  Load up friends and family, grab a nice cup of coffee or hot chocolate at Paramour Coffee Shop, Short Stop or Last Stop and cruise around Wamego and enjoy all that twinkles this season.
